Farm Credit Welcomes Hunter Sanderson as Summer Intern
Farm Credit of the Virginias (FCV) recently announced Hunter Sanderson as one of five 2020 summer interns. Along with much of the association, Sanderson will work remotely until re-entry later this year. Once FCV offices re-open, Sanderson will work alongside his mentor and Regional Manager, Vinson Snuffer, out of the Abingdon office.
Sanderson is a senior at Virginia Tech (VT), and will be graduating this coming December with a degree in Agribusiness Management and a minor in Leadership and Social Change. During his time at VT, Sanderson served as an Undergraduate Agricultural and Applied Economics Research Assistant under Dr. George Norton and worked as a Missional Summer Intern with QuadW in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He is strongly involved in his university’s extracurricular organizations, including the Ag-Econ Club, the Baptist Collegiate Ministry where he served as a discipleship leader, and the Leadership and Social Change Residential College where he served as Director of Communications for the Food House.
Growing up on his family’s farm, Sanderson is no newcomer to the ag industry. In fact, his farm has been in his family since the late 1700’s, and produced commodities including tobacco, dairy, crops, cow/calf pairs and poultry. Currently, his parents are commercial poultry growers while his brother runs the cow/calf operation. They also keep goats and pigs as a hobby.
In regards to what he is most excited to bring to Farm Credit this summer, Sanderson replied, “Farm Credit strives to be an engaged partner in rural communities, and I am excited to bring my passion for agriculture and rural communities, my experience in agriculture, and my enthusiasm to Farm Credit this summer as an intern. My goal upon graduation is to be a loan officer, and I plan to take full advantage of this internship and give 110% every day. I am excited to bring fresh ideas and work with my fellow interns on our project for Farm Credit.”
Sanderson’s mentor, Snuffer, shared, “We are very excited to have Hunter on our team. His passion for agriculture and professional development make him a perfect fit here at FCV. He has a bright future ahead of him and I look forward to working with him this summer.”
Sanderson is also a member of Payne Memorial United Methodist Church in Cumberland County. He was very involved in Randolph-Henry FFA and the Randolph-District Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary throughout high school. Life on his family’s farm is always keeping him busy, whether that is working in the chicken house helping his father fix equipment, picking up eggs in the egg room, or helping his brother with hay. His two sweet dogs, Lacy and Mowgli, are always by his side on the farm. Farm Credit is excited to welcome Sanderson to the team.
