Farm Credit Knowledge Center to Host Leadership Summit for Young and Beginning Farmers
The Farm Credit Knowledge Center will host its annual Launching Leaders Summit at The Outpost and Event Center in Buckhannon, W. Va. on October 12, 2023. The summit will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The free event is geared toward young and beginning farmers and will cover topics in community leadership, business planning and more.
The Launching Leaders Summit is a free, leadership development experience offered by the Farm Credit Knowledge Center for young and beginning farmers. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from and engage with Gary Matteson, Senior Vice President, Beginning Farmer Programs and Outreach at the Farm Credit Council, based out of Washington, D.C.. Matteson plans to address topics in business planning, leadership and policy. He specializes in making rigid business concepts more approachable and applicable to young and beginning farmers.
Additionally, participants will learn from representatives of Patriot Guardens, a program of the West Virginia Military Authority, based in Charleston, W. Va.. Patriot Guardens provides non-formal agricultural education and hands-on learning opportunities to veterans, active duty members of the military and their families. This grant-funded program provides assistance and support to all levels of agriculturalists, from backyard hobbyists and start-up business owners to the seasoned professional farmer.
