Employee Spotlight: Jessica Thomas

Briefly describe your involvement in 4-H. I grew up actively involved in 4-H. I showed livestock at the county fair, and competed in public speaking and numerous livestock judging competitions.
Briefly describe your involvement in FFA,. I was actively involved in FFA from 8th grade through high school. I have competed at the local, state and national level. I grew up showing livestock at the Rockingham County Fair.
Briefly describe your involvement in agriculture. I grew up on a small family farm in Rockingham County.
Tell us about your family. My husband is a Military Police Officer in the National Guard. We just had our daughter in December 2023.
What is your favorite song or artist? I love all 90s country music. Right now, I have really been liking Zach Bryan's music.
What is your favorite podcast? My interests in podcasts vary. I like to listen to the Unashamed Podcast and The Hunt Lift Eat Podcast. On days when I feel I need a religious grounding, I listen to the Unashamed podcast. If I need a day of laughs or want to learn more about the outdoors, The Hunt Lift Eat Podcast is always a great choice.
 

What is your favorite season? I love the fall. Fall is so beautiful and it’s also the beginning of hunting season.
Tell us about your hobbies. I have many “old soul” hobbies. I love to sew, embroider, can goods from the garden and process the animals we harvest during hunting season. 
What is a recommendation you'd make to a tourist traveling to your current town? I would tell tourists to go to the mountains, disconnect and enjoy the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley. 
Tell us about your favorite/best pet you've ever had. We have a chocolate lab named Beau. He’s so sweet!

What was your dream job as a child? I wanted to be a large animal vet when I was a child. 
What is your favorite thing about Farm Credit? I love that Farm Credit is family-oriented. 
What are your favorite weekend activities? I love spending my weekends with my husband and our daughter.
