Hampshire County Launches First-Ever Local Food Guide with Support from Farm Credit

Charitable Contributions Fund

In a meaningful step toward celebrating and supporting local agriculture, the Hampshire County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) has published The Natural Pick, the county’s first local food guide. Made possible in part by a $1,500 Charitable Contributions Fund grant from Farm Credit of the Virginias, this 24-page booklet is a vibrant resource for residents and visitors alike.

A Guide Rooted in Community

The Natural Pick features:

  • Listings of local farms and producers
  • Seasonal recipes using regional ingredients
  • Educational content on food preparation and sustainability

With 2,000 copies printed and a digital version available online, the guide has been distributed at key community locations including the Hampshire County and Capon Bridge public libraries, Romney Brew Station and Spring Valley Farm Market. Additional distribution is planned for fall events and visitor hubs.

Feedback from farmers, residents and visitors has been overwhelmingly positive. The digital version continues to provide broad access, and future updates are planned to keep the guide fresh and relevant.

The Hampshire County CVB extends sincere thanks to Farm Credit of the Virginias for their support. This project has not only promoted local food and farms but also strengthened community ties and Appalachian values.
