Scyphers to Serve as Abingdon Branch Manager
Farm Credit of the Virginias (FCV), a lending cooperative that serves Virginia, West Virginia and western Maryland, recently announced that Sarah Scyphers, a loan officer in the Abingdon branch, has been promoted to branch manager.
Scyphers grew up on her family’s farm in Floyd County, Va., though she has been a resident of Washington County, Va. for the last 17 years. She attended Virginia Tech, where she earned both a bachelor’s degree in Animal and Poultry Science and a master’s degree in Career and Technical Education. Prior to joining FCV’s Knowledge Center team in 2018, Scyphers served as an agriculture educator for 12 years. In 2023, Scyphers transitioned from the Knowledge Center team to become a loan officer for the Abingdon branch area.
Scyphers shared her favorite aspect of her seven years with the Association has been carrying out the mission of Farm Credit. “I love that Farm Credit is deeply involved in the agriculture industry in the communities we serve and that we have our customers’ best interests at heart. We really do work to carry out our mission to support the success of our customer-owners as an engaged partner in agriculture and our rural communities,” said Scyphers.
Regarding her new role, Scyphers is eager to continue serving her customers while working more closely with the branch team. She shared, “I look forward to working with our branch team members in their roles to support all of our borrowers and communities in the Abingdon branch service area.”

Her dedication, experience and network within the agriculture community will support our lending efforts in southwest Virginia.”
Outside of work, Scyphers, along with her husband and their two children, raise registered Herefords and Charolais, as well as commercial cattle on her husband’s family farm. Scyphers enjoys supporting both of her children with their 4-H market animal and breeding animal projects. She also serves on a number of boards and committees, including the Virginia Hereford Board, the Agriculture Committee for the Washington County Board of Supervisors (of which she is Chair). Additionally, Scyphers is active in her church and enjoys volunteering with other organizations in the community.
