Briefly describe your involvement in 4-H. I was actively involved in 4-H growing up - first as a 4-H Club Member and then as a Peer Leader. I both enjoyed and regularly attended 4-H summer camps, where I developed leadership skills, built long-lasting friendships and learned the value of teamwork in a hands-on, supportive environment. Through my involvement in a wide array of agriculture projects, I gained a deep appreciation for hard work, responsibility and the importance of community. 4-H played a large role in shaping my work ethic and love for rural life – experiences that still influence me today.
Briefly describe your involvement in agriculture. Agriculture has always been a central part of my life. I grew up surrounded by it, which gave me a deep respect and appreciation for the land and the courageous men and women who work it. Today, my husband, Drew, and I continue that tradition by harvesting hay on both owned and leased land and finishing cattle for beef production. In addition, fall is my favorite season, and I love growing pumpkins every year. There is something so rewarding about seeing those bright orange pumpkins ready to become decorations around our home. Being directly involved in agriculture keeps me connected to the industry at a grassroots level and gives me a firsthand understanding of the challenges and rewards our customers experience each and every day.
Are you involved in any other clubs or organizations? When I am not working or spending time with family, I am involved with the local Virginia Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Program in Floyd County, where I have the opportunity to support agriculture advocacy and education initiatives. I have also served as a Youth Mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia, which has been an incredibly rewarding way to give back and make a positive impact in the lives of youth within our local communities. Both roles allow me to stay engaged in my community and support causes that I am passionate about.
Tell us about your family. My husband, Drew, and I recently welcomed our first child – a sweet baby boy named Sawyer, who is four months old and is already running the show! We also have two dogs who keep things lively: Diesel, our black labrador retriever, and Maggie, our golden retriever. When we are not doting on Sawyer or keeping up with the dogs, we enjoy spending time outdoors as a family. Drew enjoys participating in tractor pulls (and Sawyer already has a front-row seat), and we both enjoy attending local farmers markets. And because we are true ice cream enthusiasts, a stop for ice cream is always on the agenda when we're out and about! You can always find us working together on small farm projects or chores, which is a great way to stay connected to the land and each other!
Where did you grow up? I grew up in the small town of Clintwood, Virginia, nestled in Dickenson County. It is a place rich in Appalachian culture and history – home to the legendary Ralph Stanley, one of the pioneers of bluegrass music. Clintwood is also known as the gateway to Breaks Interstate Park, often called the "Grand Canyon of the South" for its stunning gorge and breathtaking views. One of my favorite local stops is the Birch Knob Tower, which is an observation tower reached by climbing 184 steps. From the top, on a clear day, you can see into five states: Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina. It is a special place with a lot of heart and soul!
What is your favorite song? My favorite song is "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver. It is a timeless classic that perfectly captures the feeling of home and deep connection to the land and community. The song is a heartfelt ode to home and belonging, which resonates with me growing up in rural Virginia.
What is your favorite blog or podcast? I am a huge 'true crime junkie' and frequently start my day with an episode (or two... or three) of the Crime Junkie podcast. This is a staple for my morning commute – because nothing says "start your morning" like diving into mysterious disappearances and unsolved cases! It's like coffee for my brain!
What is your favorite food? My favorite food has to be Kraft Original boxed macaroni and cheese. It is comfort food at its finest – creamy, cheesy and downright irresistible. There's something about that nostalgic blue and yellow box that feels like a warm hug on a plate!
What's at the top of your bucket list? Mastering the perfect pancake flip without kitchen casualties is at the top of my bucket list.
Have you ever collected anything? I didn't set out to, but somehow I have become a collector of pens. They just magically multiply in my purse every time I go somewhere – it is like my own little stationery treasure hunt.
How do you balance career and your family? Balancing my career as a loan officer with Farm Credit with life at home – a husband, newborn and two dogs – is like juggling loans, diapers and tennis balls all at one. Organization and flexibility keep me sane; I prioritize clear communication and set realistic goals each day. Both my work and my family fuel my motivation.
What is the most interesting or favorite aspect of your job? What I love most about being a loan officer is helping people turn their dreams into reality. Every day brings on new challenges that let me play financial detective, finding the best solutions tailored to each unique situation. There's nothing quite like the moment a loan closes and knowing that I have made a real difference in someone's life. Plus, working alongside incredible people and being a part of their milestones makes the job truly rewarding.
What three words would your friends use to describe you? Three words my friends would use to describe me are organized, friendly and driven.
If your life had a theme song, what would it be? My life’s theme song would be “Don't Stop Believin'” by Journey – a reminder to keep pushing forward and stay hopeful no matter what life brings your way.
